Urban Discipleship Training School (DTS)

Art in downtown Adelaide
Many of us have grown up in a world created with a black ink pen and a ruler. A world full of clear lines, clear doctrine, and big boxes labeled "Christian" or "non-Christian", "in" or "out", "right" or "wrong".
As we grow, we begin to recognize that not everything is as simple as it originally appeared - that this is not a place of black lines only, but also a place flowing with vivid watercolours that mix, blend, wander and confuse.
What can we carry as our own in a beautiful, challenging, changing world?
What is true and what is only a rumour?
How can we live our lives well in a place like this?
As an Urban DTS staff we realise we haven’t got it all figured out, we try to ask the hard questions as we recognise often the journey is more important than the destination.
We love Jesus and still believe his message is relevant for our world, a world that is in self-destruct and in desperate need of hope.
No man changed the face of the planet as Jesus did.
So what is it all about?
It’s about getting to know God...
Rupert Brooke - a city like a cat reveals itself at night
It’s about Cities...
as Shakespeare said
“What is the City but the people?”
therefore...
It’s also about people...
Urban DTS is not simply about “faces on a TV screen in some distant land” but it’s about those around us, those we meet walking the streets, those we rub shoulders with. It’s about our neighbours, about rich and poor, young and old, native and refugee. Unlike the powers of “this world” Jesus didn’t exclude, but rather he invites everyone to the table to dine, he is our example and inspiration!

and it’s about community
Since the 60’s when YWAM began we have not only been working together striving to see God’s Kingdom of Love manifest during 9-5 BUT we have also been endeavouring to let these Kingdom values permeate our whole lives through living together in community. We strive to share our space, our possessions, our hurts and fears, the good, the bad and the beautiful. Community doesn’t have to be a vague idealistic concept anymore; here at YWAM we live it!
Community, living it!
The finer details
The Urban DTS runs for 6 months and is accredited with the YWAM University of the Nations and the Australia Government.
The first section will consist of 3 months of lectures topics will include: character and nature of God, relationships, Biblical Worldview, Urban Missions, Holy Spirit, Father Heart of God and many more. The teaching on these topics will be presented by a mix of local and international speaker’s with an Urban Missions flavour.
Then...
Just to mix it up a little, part way through the lecture phase we will be packing our bags and heading to Melbourne for 3 weeks of practical application, working with numerous Urban based groups in Melbourne (just quietly the plans coming together for this are looking pretty sweet).
After this period it will be back to Adelaide to finish the lecture phase and prepare for the international section of the outreach.
After much prayer we have confirmed that these 9 weeks of outreach will be spent in...Wait for it...
the USA and Mexico (details yet to be confirmed.).
Costs
Lecture phase: $3990.00 (all inclusive).
Outreach: yet to be confirmed (similar to lecture phase)
