Youth With A Mission - South Australia

As a team, we believe that God has called us to establish churches amongst the unreached by training, equipping, mobilizing and supporting multi-skilled teams to go to the developing regions of the World.

By churches, we mean a gathering of people who believe in Jesus Christ and worship Him in their indigenous language, with their indigenous forms of worship and music and who retain their cultural heritage. We do not want to impose our cultural values and forms, but seek to integrate and learn from the culture we are in, so as to present Jesus in a manner that people can receive and respond to.

We believe that in order to go to these places, people need adequate training. So we train people in areas such as language learning, bonding with a culture, learning from a culture, contextualisation, how to present the Gospel, bible study, worship, prayer, culture shock, church planting and belief systems of other religions.

Not only do we train in these areas, but we realise that if we are going to be effective in developing nations then we need to be equipped to work with people in an holistic manner. This is where the multi-skilled teams come into effect. We will provide training in areas such as Primary Health Care, Building, Plumbing, Horticulture, Farming, Animal Husbandry, Economic Development, Alternative Technology, Basic Mechanics, Community Development and Water Purification. This gives a wide range of tools to use on the field as short- or long-term multi-skilled teams. The teams work in both emergency relief and development situations.

We realise that an important part of being out on the field is making sure team members are well looked after. This means having a good support team here in Adelaide. These people assist in raising prayer and financial assistance, stock piling for aid projects, sending letters, emails or phone calls regularly, pastoral care visits and dealing with any problems arising from time on the field.

In order to see people achieve these goals, we recognise the need to have people in our local community training, equipping and mobilizing people for the task. In order to do this we have mobile teams that minister in Adelaide and surrounding areas. These teams work in high schools, primary schools, youth groups, churches and on the streets, sharing the love of Christ and bringing hope back into the hearts of many. They give young people an understanding of how God can use them in the nations of the world.
